This is
a site where ideas are explored.
Sometimes with humor. Not necessarily
modern ideas. In fact old ideas. Ideas
which worked until they went "out of
vogue", I suspect that to be so
because they were considered to be "inconvenient"
or "unattainable". These "explorations"
have to do with personal accountability,
discipline and sometimes remedial actions.

ABOUT THE WRITER
|
Lee
Steese; is a 58 year old male native of Los
Angeles, California.
He 'came of age'
during the Vietnam era while serving onboard a U.S.
Navy Destroyer in Vietnam.
Why
do I write? That is an often asked question.
Because there are ideas to present and opinions
to express.
The
people around me, having observed how I expressed
myself on paper on the job as well as in other
circumstances asked, "Why don't you write?
You have a talent for expressing ideas and
concepts on paper in a cohesive and coherent
manner." Now retired, and having the time to
place thoughts on paper. I thoroughly enjoy the
exercise.
For
a long time, I have perceived and bemoaned a
severe erosion of standards which many times
resulted in the total abandonment of many of the
ideals and values which were part and parcel of
my youth. These were generally held standards of
personal and community life in the late fifties/early
sixties. Is this process a sign of increasing
social maturity? Is it the result of people
'growing in their understanding and becoming more
adult'? My answer would definitely be no. To me,
what some call 'maturation and growth' is
actually a sign of cultural breakdown. A
dissolution of the American culture and common
language. What is its purpose? Is the goal the
elimination of any and all standards of conduct
which have, by some, been perceived as a
hindrance to or denigration of a particular
lifestyle.
Within
this forum, we can each have the opportunity
privately and publicly (via e-mail) to recall and
examine those views and standards.
These
are times in which many, in light of the events
of September 11, 2001 and its aftermath, are
rethinking their personal and familial values.
They are reassessing what is and is not important
in their own lives, their families, and our
society. The stated purpose of these writings is
to offer some thoughts and suggestions to
hopefully assist those who might be involved in
that process.
Having
laid no claim that my thoughts are 'absolutely
correct' or 'immutable' and not having the
monopoly of wisdom, I would thoroughly enjoy the
give and take of dialog. For this reason I would
truly appreciate hearing your feedback and
opinions. These you may send to: vurdraak@pacbell.net .
Please
take this opportunity to give me your comments
and ideas. If you wish, you may forward these
pieces to your friends.
Thank
you for visiting this site.
